Day Six: Taxotere and Cytoxan Chemo Treatment - My Personal Journal
Today I woke up feeling good. I became very tired while trying to get ready for work. I seem to do alright as long as I can sit and rest often. My body aches like I've been hit with a baseball bat, but not to the point where I am bent over in pain.
I have not lost my appetite but I have noticed a slight change in taste of some food and drinks. Soda does not taste good to me anymore.
I will update my blog tomorrow to let you know of any side effects I have.

Hi, YouDeserveIt, from your journal today, although short, it sounded like you were doing well. I am amazed you go to work. I have heard that keeping things as normal as possible is best. do you have new food cravings? maybe salsa or pickles? something which is heightened might be good. I don't know though. Could backfire.
I'm going to keep writing unless you tell me not to. Today was another great Spring Break Day. I'm sure you will enjoy my entries much more when I am dragging myself to school each morning.
I stayed up late doing twitter. Then woke at (astonishingly...) one p.m. Yeah, I know that is quite the lazy way to spend a day but I didn't mind. I had a 3:00 appointment to my my (26) year old son, Myer, at Jones' coffee house. He gave me a subscription of American Poetry Review for Christmas, he has one, and we plan out which poems we want to discuss each week. I arrived at the coffee shop and lay ed down a favorite poetry book by Naomi Shihab Nye on the table and Myer said, "Hey is that the speaker coming to the Great Plains Museum tonight for the poetry reading?" I said, "No, this is my favorite poetry book I wanted to loan to you to read." Myer said, "I think it is the same name as the guest reader." He got the newspaper where he had been glancing & reading while his coffee was being made and it surely was! I was flabbergasted and near tears! Free poetry reading tonight and I have nothing else planned...it is too good to be true! I planned to pick him up at seven and go together.
I have had a symbiotic relationship with this poet, never met before, and only own one book called 17 varieties of Gazelles.I went home and got a few things ready. I wanted to make a poster of the newspaper article to have her sign and encourage my 2nd graders to keep writing poems. She said that 2nd grade was when it started to be a passion of hers. next, I wrote a letter to Naomi (Shihab Nye) describing how the poetry book became so special to me.
Next I explained why I wanted to give her a gift of a valuable real photo post card of William Jennings Bryan sitting out front of his home here in Lincoln, Nebraska called "Fairview".It was sent in 1908 and was postmarked from Lincoln on September nth, my birthday. I wanted her to have it because the gift of her poetry had given so much to me.
Well, the poetry reading was far from anything I ever expected and Naomi was so kind and generous and amazing. The real fun came when she told me, "Did you know I collect post cards?" (I hadn't) Everything was perfect except I had forgotten my camera at home. The evening was even more special because I had my son, Myer, to share it with.
so often I have to go to things like this alone. I came home and wrote all the details down in my art journal. I had taken notes during her reading, It feels like I will never forget this day. Monumental in such spontaneous ways.
YouDeserveIt, I can continue to write. Let me know if you want other kinds of details.Love, janaree

Hi Janaree,
I like reading your comments. You are a very nice person to try to help me to keep my mind off my own problems. It sounds like you had a very exciting day at the poetry reading. Not many of us get to meet our favorite writer. You may not have had your camera but you were smart to write down all the details in your journal. You'll read about that day many years from now and it will feel like it yesterday. How great for you!
